A Georgia man is behind bars after being charged with the murder of a woman at a popular South Carolina beach resort last autumn. Bornold Alastair Eberhart, 42, of Georgia was arrested by DeKalb County Police and SWAT on March 8, in connection to the death of Kristin Laymon, a resident of Duluth. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, Laymon had traveled with Eberhart to the North Myrtle Beach resort on September 22, 2023.

Sightings of Laymon came to a halt after she was seen entering the elevator of the resort at 2:12 a.m. A subsequent missing person report by the Duluth Police Department initiated the involvement of the North Myrtle Beach authorities. "Police believe Laymon and Eberhart got into an argument, which resulted in her death. Eberhart then allegedly drove back to DeKalb County with her body in the trunk of a vehicle," FOX 5 Atlanta reported. It is alleged that Eberhart later drove back to DeKalb County with her body.

The grueling search concluded on March 9 when a body, presumed to be Laymon's, was found in a wooded area of the 1800 block of Whitehall Forest Court. The grim discovery was made merely a day after Eberhart's March 8 arrest. As stated by 11Alive, "DeKalb County Police also confirmed and said they found skeletal remains of a person in the woods of that same address."

Though Eberhart was initially held at the DeKalb County Detention Center, records indicate his transfer to South Carolina custody where he faces murder charges. North Myrtle Beach Police Department has revealed that a news conference is set for Thursday afternoon, suggesting further details are forthcoming. Agencies such as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the FBI, and other local departments have contributed to the investigation, highlighting an extensive multi-agency effort. The official confirmation from the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office on the identity of the remains is still pending, but law enforcement is confident enough in their findings to proceed with the murder charge against Eberhart, as per the reports from 11Alive.
