Kyles Converge in Kyle, Texas, Aiming to Break World Record at Annual FairSource: Facebook / The City of Kyle, TX - Local Government

It's showtime for Kyles in Kyle, Texas, as the city rolls out another attempt to snatch a world record from the Ivans. The Gathering of the Kyles, part of the Kyle Fair A Tex-Travaganza, is being billed as a chance for Kyles of every stripe to band together on May 18 and make a run for the Guinness World Record for the largest same-name gathering. According to CBS Austin, the City of Kyle is not looking to fall short this time around and needs all hands—or Kyles—on deck to outdo a 2017 record set when 2,235 Ivans collected together in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Last year, an impressive 1,490 Kyles from across the country convened during the fair but fell shy of breaking the record. This year, organizers are locked and loaded to up the ante. "Kyles, you're our only hope to bring the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ for largest same-name gathering, first-name only to American soil and firmly in the hands of Kyles worldwide," Claudia Rocha, Kyle Fair Special Events Manager, told CBS Austin. With pre-registration available online, and on-site registration spanning May 17-18, the local Kyles and beyond are queued up for another shot at the history books.

There's plenty in store for Kyles who make the pilgrimage to Lake Kyle Park, 700 Lehman Rd. Those bearing the first name "Kyle," with no deviations in spelling permitted, will have a chance to partake in the festivities. Besides admission to the fair and a live soundtrack from various music acts, participating Kyles can score a free Kyle Fair t-shirt, while the supplies last. A photo ID will be the golden ticket required to join the ranks and Kyle Fair assures there are zero expenses tied to the record attempt.

This isn't the first rodeo for the Kyles of Texas—with four prior huddles, last year's event saw Kyles from 49 of the 50 states gather, alongside brethren from Canadian provinces like Ontario and British Columbia. However, securing the record has remained elusive. The majority of the 2023 crowd—about 950 Kyles—were locals, proud Texans, according to a statement obtained by KVUE.

For those named Kyle, or anyone curious about witnessing a potential page-turner in the annals of same-name gatherings, more information about The Gathering of the Kyles is a mere click away at the KVUE websites. Mark your calendars, folks, because on May 18, Kyle could very well go down in history—and you wouldn't want to miss it.
