A Long Beach local is behind bars after federal agents say he transported a 14-year-old Arizona girl to his apartment for unlawful sexual activity. Trevon Nathaniel Langstaff, 32, met the teenager on an internet forum and is now facing severe charges, as per the Justice Department's recent announcement.

The teen, reported missing early Tuesday, was discovered in a closet at Langstaff's residence during an early morning law enforcement operation. Upon being found, she reported that Langstaff had sexually engaged with her after she arrived at the apartment, as stated in an affidavit. The Justice Department noted that Langstaff's arrest is based on the grounds of transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

According to the detailed affidavit obtained by the Justice Department, the victim's family launched an urgent search upon her disappearance. It was revealed that the victim had conveyed intentions of running away a week prior and mentioned a man who would provide shelter to runaways. Langstaff, who had multiple contacts with the victim as uncovered by phone records, now awaits his initial court appearance in downtown Los Angeles.

Langstaff was apprehended Wednesday at his Long Beach home, with the FBI and Long Beach Police Department leading the investigation. If found guilty, he's looking at a mandatory minimum of 10 years, up to a life sentence in federal prison, highlighted in the Justice Department's report. The case is currently in the hands of Assistant United States Attorney Damaris Diaz of the Violent and Organized Crime Section.
