Miami Beach City Manager Alina Hudak Resigns After Instituting Spring Break Safety MeasuresSource: City of Miami Beach

Miami Beach City Manager Alina Hudak, who recently implemented a high-profile crackdown on unruly spring break antics, has submitted her resignation. The announcement came earlier today, and Hudak will maintain her role with the city until June 26, as reported by CBS News Miami

"It has been one of my greatest career achievements to serve as the City Manager of this beautiful, historic and global destination," Hudak mentioned in her resignation letter obtained by CBS News Miami. Hired in April 2021, she was the first woman to ever run the City of Miami Beach and tackled the spring break violence by imposing strict restrictions including a curfew.

The spring break period has been problematic for Miami Beach, with last year seeing two fatalities and close to 500 arrests during the festivities. Hudak's tenure saw enforceable precautionary measures, such as the imposition of a curfew during St. Patrick's Day weekend from 11:59 p.m. to 6 a.m., which courted controversy and took businesses to court. Three South Beach nightclubs filed a complaint about the negative impact the curfew had, according to CBS News Miami's news partners at the Miami Herald.

Despite the history of disturbances, the curfew for the year 2024 was unusual in that it followed what was thus far a relatively quiet March, an apparent result of the city's efforts to "break up with spring break." Official warnings of a likely curfew had been communicated to residents, businesses, and visitors since the previous year.
