
A collision in Millington early on Friday morning between a Greyhound bus and an SUV resulted in a fiery scene and left one person hospitalized, according to city officials. The accident occurred at approximately 5 a.m. near Highway 51 and Big Creek Church Road when an SUV caught fire after colliding with the bus. WREG reported that the driver of the SUV managed to escape from the vehicle and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Millington’s first responders rushed to the scene of the accident, where they found the bus passengers and driver unharmed. "The 15 passengers and one driver on the bus did not receive any major injuries," the Millington Fire Department stated. Another Greyhound bus was summoned to retrieve the stranded passengers, as per a statement obtained by FOX13 Memphis, so they could continue toward their original destinations.
The accident led to the closure of the southbound lanes near the crash site as police conducted their investigations into the incident’s cause. The authorities were also tasked with the clean-up of debris that had scattered across the area. The road remained closed for some time, with the Millington Public Safety Department advising motorists to seek alternative routes.
