A fatal crash unfolded on Interstate 5 in Seattle when a truck veered off-road, leaving a 55-year-old Lynnwood man dead after a reported medical emergency. The Monday morning accident occurred just before 10 a.m. near Mercer Street on an elevated segment of the freeway, as per KIRO 7.

Washington State Patrol disclosed that the driver passed away hours later at Harborview Medical Center despite the swift action of emergency crews who extricated him from his precarious position atop the railing where his truck lay, diagonally rest against it. Initially after the crash, WSDOT cameras captured the striking image of the truck, two wheels lofted airily above Eastlake Avenue—an odd sight among the usual torrent of morning traffic.

Following the incident, southbound lanes of the I-5 witnessed significant delays, with traffic backing up for approximately four miles, according to reports from KING 5. The congestion eventually eased when all lanes reopened shortly before 11:30 a.m., after the removal of the wreckage.

"There were injuries involved in the crash," Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson informed, though details about additional victims or the extent of their injuries were not elaborated. The identity of the Lynnwood man, while in critical condition, was not released, pending the notification of next of kin and the finalization of investigative procedures by local authorities.
