Serial Sexual Offender Anthony Pittman Sentenced to 8 Years for Attacking Homeless Women in Santa MonicaSource: Santa Monica Police Department

A man with a record of sexual offenses is heading back behind bars after copping with a disgusting string of attacks on homeless women. Anthony Pittman, a transient himself, will be locked up for the next eight years after pleading no contest to his vile crimes, officials report.

One of Pittman's victims recounted her harrowing experience near the Santa Monica Library on September 27, 2022. The woman, also without a place to call home, awoke before dawn to the suspect's attempt to strip her of her blankets. Her effort to escape was thwarted when she was tackled and sexually assaulted. According to a statement from the Santa Monica Police Department, she headed straight to the station post-assault to report the crime, under incident number 220098142.

Pittman's trail of terror didn't end in Santa Monica. The attacks, occurring throughout late summer of last year, all involved homeless females and took place across LAPD's Northeast and Wilshire Divisions. The pivotal piece that linked Pittman to his victims was DNA - an unassailable witness to his guilt.

Before his sentencing, Pittman had already been on the radar as a convicted sex offender. His list of charges this time around included Forced Sodomy and Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony—a sentence borne out of the lives he tore apart. Anyone with additional information related to these grievous acts is urged to reach out to Detective Sergeant Chad Goodwin at [email protected] or place a call to the Watch Commander at 310-458-8427.
