Bay Area Anticipates Brief Calm Before Drizzle as NWS Forecasts Unsettled Weather Starting TuesdayPhoto by Jessy Smith on Unsplash

The Bay Area is set to experience a calm start to the week, with mainly dry conditions holding steady through Monday, as reported by the National Weather Service. However, this period of tranquility is expected to be short-lived, with the weather turning more unsettled come Tuesday. According to an X post from NWS Bay Area, the region should anticipate an uptick in cloud cover, accompanied by the possibility of drizzle or light rain as the week progresses.

Temperatures across interior areas will slightly warm up through Monday, although coastal regions may not feel this as much due to the lingering marine influence. "Expecting patchy coastal drizzle in the favored upslope regions this morning with conditions improving by late morning," the National Weather Service outlined. Breezy conditions are also on the forecast, with northwest gusts predicted to hit between 25-35 mph later today near the coast, which should gradually decline into the overnight.

The workweek spells a cooling trend, as an upper-level low is forecasted to sweep through the Bay Area by Tuesday. "Cooler, unsettled weather will continue through late week with increased cloud cover and potential for light rainfall," per the National Weather Service's forecast discussion. Coastal areas are especially likely to experience drizzle near the coast and in the hills despite some uncertainties in the extent of the precipitation.

Aviation-wise, local air traffic may face some disruption in the morning due to low coastal cloud ceilings, resulting in LIFR/IFR conditions. However, VFR, or visual flight rules conditions, are expected to reestablish by mid-to-late morning as the stratus clouds clear up. "Clearing of stratus and a return to VFR is expected into the later morning today, generally between 15-17Z as daytime heating begins and clouds begin to mix out," was further detailed by the National Weather Service aviation sector.

Consequently, mariners are also to take heed as northerly winds build and intensify through Sunday morning, prompting advisories and a gale warning for certain offshore regions. Despite the strengthening northwest swell Sunday, it's projected to diminish by midweek alongside ongoing light southerly swell. "Northerly winds build into the afternoon today to become fresh to strong across much of the waters through early Monday morning," as mentioned in the marine section of the forecast discussion from the National Weather Service.
