In a crackdown on Dorchester's illicit drug and weapons trade, two local men find themselves in cuffs after cops swooped in Wednesday afternoon. Darnell Gibbs, 27, and Luis Malave, 26, are staring down the barrel of serious charges following the discovery of a small arsenal and a hoard of drugs in an apartment on Columbia Terrace.

According to Boston Police Department reports, officers descended on the scene at 2:18 PM, yielding a Springfield Armory firearm with tampered serial digits, a finely tuned laser sight, and a loaded high-capacity magazine. Their haul also included a Girsan Regard MC, THC-filled cartridges and vaporizers, an assortment of pills, five pounds of greenery, hefty chunks of cocaine, and both a bulletproof vest and currency in excess — $109,804, to be precise.

Mr. Gibbs now faces counts including unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition, and a large capacity feeding device, not to mention the improper stowage of that firepower, and drug trafficking of class B substances. Addition to that, he's slapped with the intent to distribute Class B and Class D drugs.

His alleged accomplice, Malave, goes to court on trafficking charges, intent to distribute Class D drugs, and unauthorized ammunition possession. Both suspects are slated to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
