Bostonians brace for a mixed bag of weather this week, with meteorologists forecasting everything from light rain and potential thunderstorms to a gradual warmup as we head into the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, today could see rain chances hovering around 40%, with potential thunderstorms brewing post-4pm. Temperatures are expected to peak at a mostly cloudy 61 degrees before a sharp drop to the low 30s overnight.

As Wednesday rolls through, Boston deals with its lone unsettled day of the week, but it's hardly a soaker. The city is set to experience scattered showers in the morning and again towards day's end - these showers dragging a sharp cold front that's going to quickly bring the temps down. "Admittedly, with some falling into the mid-20s, it's better to bring those items in rather than attempt to save them with a covering," said meteorologists at NBC Boston, cautioning residents to protect sensitive vegetation from the frost.

The dip in temperature will be felt well into Thursday night, which is predicted to hit a low around 36 degrees. However, a sunny Thursday and Friday with highs in the mid-50s will pave the way for a much-anticipated warming trend. Bostonians can look forward to mostly sunny skies on Saturday, with temperatures possibly rising to the friendly confines of the mid-60s.

With eyes set towards the weekend, it seems like Boston is still on track to warm up nicely, although coastal areas might need to slightly temper their expectations due to sea breezes. "But at this point, the sea breeze may only cool us into the upper 60s," NBC Boston reports, suggesting that areas further inland are likely to see temps boldly climb into the 70s. The following Sunday continues to flit with the possibility of showers, even as the mercury aims for a high around 67 degrees.

As next week kicks off, Monday's cloud coverage does little to stall the advance of warmer air, with daytime highs set to skirt the lush boundary of 70 degrees. The chance for showers persists through Tuesday, but does not seem to dampen the advent of warmer days ahead for the city of Boston.
