The incident occurred during excavation work on the high school’s property.
As Consumers Energy investigated the gas leak, the school opted for an early release of their high school students, an update that came shortly after noon. The gas-supply company worked diligently on-site to contain the leak and assess any potential dangers. Throughout the ordeal, the school maintained constant communication with students and parents, offering reassurances of their top-priority concern for student safety. "We understand this situation may have caused concern, and we want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority," according to a statement obtained by WZZM13.
Additional details from FOX17 revealed, students who drove to school were allowed to leave on their own accord, while those without vehicles could be fetched by their guardians. High schoolers without a means to head home continued to stay put at Kraft Meadows Intermediate until regular dismissal times, when buses transported them home or parents picked them up.
