A woman narrowly escaped a harrowing encounter in the heart of Chicago's West Loop, according to a recent community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department. The incident, which has sparked an urgent call for public vigilance, occurred on the evening of April 14th when a 35-year-old female was targeted in an attempted sexual assault.

The victim was walking on Carpenter Street toward Randolph when a man attacked her from behind, the police said. This assailant, with a clench on her waist and a hand stifling her cries, aimed to quickly move her to an obscure alleyway. In an act of defiance and survival, the victim managed to bite the assailant's finger, which resulted in her being tossed aside as the suspect fled the scene. The suspect ran south on Carpenter and then east on Randolph Street, according to officials.

Authorities have described the assailant as a Hispanic male believed to be in his early thirties, with short hair, donning a white and green windbreaker.
