The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating a daylight murder after a man was found shot to death in Malibu. The shooting took place near the 800 block of Westlake Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon, with the victim pronounced dead at the scene, the department said.

According to a statement obtained by LASD's Nixle alert, the event occurred on April 24, around 2:55 p.m. Responding to a call, deputies found the deceased male off of the main road in an area typically traversed only by 4-wheel drive vehicles. A passer-by, using the trail for 4-wheel driving, discovered the unaccompanied vehicle and the body, notifying the authorities.

The sheriff's department is keeping details sparse as the investigation continues. As of now, the identity of the male Hispanic victim, estimated to be between 20 to 30 years old, has not been released. With no suspects identified yet, the case is shrouded in mystery, while deputies work to connect the scant dots before them.
