DeKalb County residents can finally quench their thirst for normalcy after crews repaired a widespread water main leak on McLendon Drive. The leak, which effectively left neighborhood taps dry for nearly 48 hours, was first reported on Monday and caused significant disruptions. On Wednesday afternoon, the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management confirmed the replacement of the damaged section of the 50-year-old pipe, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.

Along with the repaired water main, people in the area had to contend with traffic headaches as the road closure near Highway 78 due to the extensive repair works resulted in backups. The DeKalb County Watershed Management pinpointed the cause of the leak to the aged infrastructure, with the 42-inch-diameter water main succumbing to time's relentless march. "A little less water than we're used to. They're doing the best to figure it out for us," Kelli Ryan told Atlanta News First, echoing the patient sentiments of affected locals.

Full water service has been reinstated, bringing relief to residents and businesses who had been temporarily disconnected from this essential resource. Officials urge those in the precinct to run their faucets to purify their plumbing systems. Traffic control specialists, who shared duties directing vehicles away from the work site, will no longer be needed as the road reopens to the regular flow of traffic.

Should any residents continue to experience inadequate water pressure, the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management advises getting in touch via email or by phoning (770) 270-6243. Dee Kilroy, who experienced the initial moments of the water crisis first-hand, recounted to Atlanta News First, "We were watching TV. I got up turned on the tap and I was like, oh." Now, with repairs completed just prior to Wednesday noon, taps once rendered nearly useless are back in flowing service.
