A man was gunned down in a fatal shooting that occurred in Northeast D.C., and now detectives are on the hunt for answers. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the incident took place on Thursday, just after midnight, on the 4500 block of Sheriff Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, Sixth District officers found an adult male victim riddled with multiple gunshot wounds, in desperate need of medical attention. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, battling for his life, where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Ricky Canty from Temple Hills, Maryland. The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch has taken on the case, fervently working through leads to shed light on this heinous crime that cut a life short and left a community in shock.

While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have not yet released information regarding any suspects or motives behind the shooting. The department is appealing to the public for any information that might bring the perpetrator to justice, assuring that all tips can be submitted anonymously.
