Georgetown, Texas is getting ready to paint the town red - not with brush strokes, but with its vibrant history and love for the red poppy flower. The 25th annual Georgetown Red Poppy Festival is set to kick off this Friday night, bringing a plethora of events to the downtown square for a weekend packed with tradition and entertainment, as reported by Spectrum Local News.

The affair begins on April 26, with live music setting the nightscape alight courtesy of Dysfunkshun Junkshun from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Vendor markets with artisans and food options will be available for festivalgoers from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. As per KVUE, over 100 artisan vendors are expected at the event, ensuring plenty of choices for those looking to indulge in local crafts and cuisine.

Continuing the celebration, Saturday promises an array of activities starting with the Red Poppy Parade at 10 a.m., followed closely by a classic car show running till 3 p.m. Music acts for the day include The Walburg Boys and Silverade, who are set to warm up the stage for the headlining act by country music artist Easton Corbin at 9:30 p.m., Spectrum Local News detailed. Not just for adults, the festival also creates a playground for the younger attendees with a kid's zone open from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The concluding day of the fest will feature an eclectic mix - from a pet parade to performances by The Lockharts, Ballet Folklorico, and the East View Steel Band & Jazz Ensemble, spanning from 11 a.m. through 5 p.m. There are no admission fees for the concerts or other included activities, and the festival's vibrant past will never be far from mind, rooted as it is in the red poppies that once grew wild in the area. Sharon Parker, the city's senior special events and marketing coordinator, told Spectrum Local News, “We are really excited to celebrate the 25th year of the Red Poppy Festival. We have a lot of great things planned for the weekend and want to remind everyone who is coming to be patient and prepared for large crowds on and around the Square.”
