Man Charged with Assault on Officers After Crashing Stolen Vehicle in Gwinnett CountySource: Gwinnett County Police Department

A wild chase and a botched disguise landed a Gwinnett County man behind bars after he crashed a stolen vehicle into a police car and later attempted to evade arrest by altering his appearance. The 21-year-old suspect, Kalvin Robinson, is now facing a slew of charges including aggravated assault against law enforcement officers.

According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the ordeal started when Robinson allegedly carjacked a vehicle on Lawrenceville Highway, leaving the owner injured and bleeding. In a failed bid to quickly change his identity, the suspect reportedly tried to hastily alter his haircut and changed his clothes after the initial crime. "They saw the individual, kind of recognized his description and realized he had changed shorts and had hastily tried to cut his hair a lot shorter than when they initially started the chase and the foot pursuit," Cpl. Ryan Winderweedle described to the news outlet.

The pursuit came to a crashing halt when Robinson rammed the stolen car into a Gwinnett County Police Department's patrol vehicle in a parking lot on Rockbridge Road. As shown in body camera footage obtained by WSB Radio, this collision led to a foot chase, which initially ended with Robinson eluding capture.

After over an hour and a half manhunt, police were to finally apprehend Robinson back at a hotel on East Park Place Boulevard. Despite his attempts to drastically cut his hair and change attire, his flight from the law had reached its terminal point. During the arrest, officers seized a firearm from Robinson's pocket, addressing another potential threat.

Robinson has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, felony obstruction, felony fleeing, felony theft by receiving, five counts of misdemeanor obstruction, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and driving on a suspended license. Additional warrants for theft by deception, second-degree forgery, theft by shoplifting, family violence battery, and robbery have also been served, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
