A routine welfare check took a turn for the serious when deputies stumbled upon a man asleep in his car at a Houston gas station, leading to a discovery of 55 grams of methamphetamine. Constable Mark Herman's Office identified the man as Matthew Raines, who was found with materials for smoking crystal meth, according to a post on the precinct's official Facebook page.

Upon their investigation, officials learned Raines was not a stranger to the law, being out on bail for several offenses including possession of a controlled substance, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and driving while intoxicated. His bonds for these charges totaled $5,200.00. The discovery of the methamphetamine, however, led to Raines' immediate arrest, officials have confirmed.

Raines was booked into the Harris County Jail on a fresh charge for possession of a controlled substance. The announcement from Constable Herman lacked details on Raines' bond amount or court date, which had yet to be determined at that time.
