A 13-year-old girl has been charged in a disturbing stabbing incident involving another juvenile in Houston, authorities announced earlier today. The attack, which occurred yesterday evening at an apartment complex at 832 West Greens Road, left the 13-year-old victim hospitalized but in stable condition.

According to the City of Houston news release, the unnamed suspect has been referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities and faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from a verbal dispute that took a violent turn shortly after 6:15 p.m.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective A. Gardner Barker gave an account of the events leading up to the stabbing: "HPD patrol officers responded to a stabbing call at an apartment complex at the above address and learned one female juvenile stabbed another." as per Detective Barker's report, the altercation escalated "when the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim at least once."

The response by law enforcement was rapid, as officers were quickly on scene to detain the alleged assailant. "The suspect was detained by responding officers and referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities," confirmed a statement from the Houston Police Department, signaling the beginning of yet another troubling chapter in the life of two children caught in the relentless cycle of violence.
