A 55-year-old woman, critically injured in a Houston traffic accident last month, has succumbed to her injuries, authorities confirmed. The collision, which took place at the 2600 block of the Southwest Freeway service road on the morning of March 22, resulted in the woman's death after several weeks of medical intervention.

The identity of the victim is still under wraps, as officials from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences are in the process of verification. Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer A. Hart stated the woman was crossing eastbound when she was hit by an eastbound black Lexus GS460, the driver, aged 53, was not impaired and cooperated with the authorities, according to the official report.

The fatal incident occurred when the woman reportedly crossed the service road against the light and entered the path of the SUV, which was turning onto the freeway. The driver stayed on the scene following the collision and was later released after questioning. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded promptly, rushing the severely injured pedestrian to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where she ultimately passed away.

Despite the driver's involvement in the accident, no charges have been filed in relation to the case, authorities are still investigating the circumstances leading up to the incident.
