A domestic dispute turned deadly in Knoxville on Saturday morning when police officers shot and killed a man after he fired a gun at a woman, striking her in the face. The incident took place around 7:50 a.m. on the city's west side, on the 4700 block of Santala Drive, as reported by the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Responding to a call about an armed man involved in an domestic situation, two Knoxville Police Department officers entered the home and were confronted with a harrowing scene. The suspect, wielding a handgun, shot the woman seconds after officers arrived. Police fired back, striking the man at least once, according to details provided by the Knoxville Police Department on their official Facebook Page. Neither of an officers were injured during the encounter.

The gunman was pronounced dead at the site of the shooting, while the injured woman was rushed to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Despite the gunshot wound to her face, her injuries are not expected to be life-threatening, as stated by the NewsChannel 9.

As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has stepped in to take the lead on the case.
