A grim discovery was made on the shores of Lake Michigan Tuesday morning as police reported that a man's body was found washed ashore near North Avenue Beach. According to the WLS, Chicago police responded to a call around 6 a.m. in the vicinity of the 1900 block of North Lake Shore Drive where the body was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased, who marine unit officers speculate could be a man in his 40s, was found between the sand and the water closer to shore, per an officer's statement obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times. The time of death, nor the duration of the man's remains have been lingering in the lake were not known immediately, but the body was recovered at about 6:35 a.m.

As the community awaits answers, the man's identity remains unpublicized until his family is notified and an autopsy is scheduled to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.
