A Memphis teenager has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly shooting a man to death as he slept, according to police records. Montrell Kinds, 17, stands accused in the slaying of Javodrick Gordon, who failed to appear for work on the day of the grisly discovery. A family member found Gordon's body on Tuesday, bearing gunshot wounds to the head and chest in his Parkway Village home, as reported by Action News 5.

Kinds, who also faces charges for especially aggravated robbery and evading arrest, refused to stop and tried to flee police when located with the victim's 2017 Infiniti. The teen was apprehended after officers used GPS to track the stolen vehicle. The event led to a chase ending near Shelby Drive and Millbranch Road, where Kinds was taken into custody. FOX13 Memphis details that Kinds had been found with the car a day after the murder was reported.

Upon discovery, police observed that there were no signs of struggle in the room and no evidence of forced entry into Gordon's residence. Investigators also say that Kinds confessed to being inside Gordon's house on the 4800 block of Cloister Avenue and taking his vehicle. This admission came after Kinds initially led authorities on a foot chase following the evasion attempt in the stolen Infiniti as per information obtained by WREG.

This incident has shaken the Parkway Village community, where residents are left to reckon with the abrupt and violent loss. Kinds is set to face trial as an adult due to the severity of the charges, with prosecutors highlighting the premeditated nature of the attack given that "Gordon was shot in the head and chest while lying on his stomach," noted in the police affidavit.
