As schools wind down and students prepare to take a break, the Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) gears up to ensure no child goes hungry this summer. To help thousands of kids who rely on free or reduced-priced meals during the academic year, Metro Action is set to provide nutritious breakfasts and lunches at over 100 locations across the city for those chilling out over the summer, as reported by nashville.gov.

The program targets a variety of community spaces that serve as summer havens for the youth. These include apartment complexes, day camps, churches, community centers, and sports clinics. For sites to be eligible to dish out these free meals, they must serve youth or be near schools where the Free and Reduced Lunch program runs throughout the standard school calendar. To apply, program leaders can click on "Get Free Summer Meals for Youth" at MAC's website or visit their office directly.

MAC provides comprehensive training to sites new to the program in May and offers ongoing support to ensure the scheme runs smoothly. The summer meal program will start on June 5 and continue rolling out lunches and breakfasts until July 28. A spokesperson for Metro Action highlighted the importance of sustaining meal access for kids during the summertime, underscoring the agency's plan to ensure that children who generally count on school meals aren't left high and dry when classes aren't in session.

In a call to action, Metro Action pressed potential sites to submit their applications by the April 21 deadline. These community locations offer free meals and critical zones where kids can safely congregate and partake in enriching summer activities.
