Quick on their heels, detectives from the Carjacking Task Force are tapping into community support to pinpoint and apprehend the individual responsible for these brazen acts.
According to details shared on the MPD’s official website, the sequence of events kicked off on April 3. It was approximately 5:35 p.m. when the suspect boldly entered a business on U Street, leaped over the sales counter, and got to physically push an employee aside before snagging money from the register. Without wasting a moment, the suspect made a swift exit from the scene, leaving the establishment in disarray and staff rattled by the unexpected confrontation.
The pattern continued the following day, on April 4, with a similar scenario unfolding around 2:45 p.m. This time, the backdrop was a business located on 17th Street, where the robber replicated their signature move by jumping the counter and pushing past an employee to grab the cash before beating a hasty retreat. But the streak didn’t end there. A day later, the suspect attempted yet again to overcome the confines of a sales counter at a 14th Street business.
The most recent incident occurred on April 20, around 1:19 p.m., when the suspect still determined brazenly walked into a business on L Street. In a bold move, they reached over the sales counter, grabbed the money, and fled the scene. Each case has been documented with a CCN (Criminal Complaint Number), signalling the urgency and attention law enforcement is paying to this string of crimes in an effort to bring the suspect to justice.
The MPD has released additional photos and video footage in hopes that someone will recognize the individual and provide information that could lead to their capture. Community members with any knowledge of these incidents, or who can identify the suspect depicted in the images and video, are strongly encouraged to reach out to the authorities.
