A Nashville teen has been charged with the shooting death of his cousin during a birthday party gone awry, authorities report. Darrin Fleming, 15, is accused of killing 31-year-old Barrington Moore in a short-term rental on Youngs Lane, as FOX17 News first reported.

According to police, the altercation occurred after Fleming, who was on Juvenile Court probation and required to be home by 8 p.m., was found by Moore hiding in a closet an hour past his curfew, this incident then quickly escalated into a fatal encounter. During the dispute, Fleming brandished a weapon and admitted to discharging it—resulting in Moore's death, NewsChannel5 noted.

Neighborhood resident Brian Clements expressed his shock to NewsChannel5, saying, "It's scary. People always say it can happen anywhere...so it happening that close to where I live, it's...it's a little bit scary," and adding, "It's sad; it's a young kid whose life's changed forever, a man whose life is lost...all the people that were at the party, their lives...all the people that live here, our lives were affected. It affects so many people." Moore was remembered by the community as a good man who worked with children and was a leader in the community.

Fleming has been charged with criminal homicide and is currently detained at a juvenile center, as per WSMV, the shooting took place Thursday night and has since sent shockwaves through the North Nashville community where the altercation and ensuing tragedy took place.
