An incarcerated man was rushed to the hospital after being found unresponsive at Todd Road Jail, as reported in a police press release on April 18th.

At approximately 9:44 A.M. on April 11th, deputies at the Santa Paula facility stumbled upon Tony Garcia, 70, from Oxnard, in a state of unconsciousness in the jail's dayroom area. Upon finding Garcia in his assigned unit, deputies along with the medical staff on-site, immediately provided first aid before Garcia was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for further treatment, according to a statement by Ventura County Sheriff's Office.

The circumstances that led up to Garcia's condition are believed to be the result of an assault by another inmate. The Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau has since taken up an active investigation to unwrap the events that preceded the emergency. Sergeant Monica Smith prepared the report that called for any witnesses or persons with knowledge of the incident to step forward, ensuring anonymity for those who opt to speak with Ventura County Crime Stoppers.

In the aftermath of Garcia's hospitalization, Captain Dean Worthy has authorized the release of a booking photo as part of the appeal for information.
