A man is behind bars after he allegedly attacked his estranged wife and absconded with their son from a west Phoenix home, according to authorities. Emmanuel Maldonado, 27, reportedly launched an assault on his wife late Wednesday night, fleeing the scene with one of their children in tow, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.

Police were summoned to the residence near 99th Avenue and Indian School Road at approximately 11:45 p.m. following reports of domestic violence; there they were briefed on Maldonado's flight with his 7-year-old child, named Israel Maldonado, this after he supposedly struck his wife, in a crime that Sgt. Rob Scherer of the Phoenix PD disclosed, included the theft of several personal items such as the victim's phone, firearm, and vehicle keys, according to an interview with FOX 10 Phoenix.

The victim had relocated to Arizona from another state, a move that brought with it a sundering from Maldonado, as details emerged throughout the police investigation. During the physical confrontation with her estranged husband, the woman had to seclude herself in a room with her other children for safety, AZ Family reported.

After an exhaustive search, the following day saw Maldonado apprehended in the vicinity of the assault, the Phoenix PD successfully recovered the young boy who was subsequently reunited with his mother safe and sound, with Maldonado himself being incarcerated on a litany of charges that include aggravated assault, weapons violations, and burglary however despite the gravity of his alleged actions kidnapping charges have yet to be filed amid lingering custody complications, but authorities affirm the matter is actively under investigation, as per a statement obtained by AZ Family.
