San Antonio Residents Voice Concerns Over Collapsed Retaining Wall Near Kyle Seale ParkwaySource: Google Street View

Northwest San Antonio residents are raising alarms over a crumbling retaining wall along Kyle Seale Parkway, near Cedar Creek Golf Course, that has partially collapsed, creating visible structural concerns. According to KENS 5, locals are questioning the safety of the area and the adequacy of the measures taken so far to prevent further deterioration.

The precarious situation was brought to light following a collapse on April 10, when a witness described the sudden failure, saying, "It looked like a zipper that unzipped and everything fell." The incident has prompted concerns among those living across from the canyon where the collapse occurred, who noted the sheer suddenness of it, stating, "It just went down, from what I saw. One day it wasn't there and I came back and there it was."

The breach in the wall has been a source of unease, particularly since the damaged section is adjacent to the entrance ramp of the Vista Colina apartment complex, now presenting as a void where there should be solid ground. A resident highlighted the potential for underlying issues by questioning, "My biggest concern is, one, it's limestone, which is porous. Do they have proper drainage for that?" He then speculated, "I think they don't have proper drainage. I think that's why the wall collapsed," as reported by KEN5.

Further anxiety stems from a historical precedent, with another neighbor recalling a comparable mishap in the city back in 2010. "It's very creepy," they remarked,  "Especially thinking that wall holds up all of that area there. I just hope it doesn't collapse and fall off to the side like what happened in River Mist."

Addressing the issue, Bexar County has taken some action. Bexar County spokesperson Monica Ramos said that before KENS 5's inquiry, there had been no complaints about the retaining wall. However, she assured me that the builder had cordoned off the area and repairs would be underway. Ramos indicated, "The area has been roped off by the builder to address the issue and make repairs," and confirmed, "Deputy fire marshals have confirmed that ingress/egress for residents and emergency personnel is available. The fire marshal's office will continue to monitor."

While the apartment complex's management has yet to provide an official statement, they have made promises to return calls from KENS 5 with details concerning the neighborhood's safety concerns. Residents remain vigilant, awaiting concrete steps to secure the area and prevent further risk.
