San Diego Set for Sunnier Skies and Warmer Weather, Says NWS San DiegoSource: Flickr / Peyri Herrera

Good news for beachgoers and sun worshippers alike as the San Diego Area is in for a toasty treat. According to the National Weather Service San Diego, after a breezy and cloudy end to the week, conditions are setting up for a warmer and calmer weather pattern. "Weaker winds, brighter skies, and warmer weather is on the horizon for the upcoming week," the service said in its Area Forecast Discussion. By Sunday, temperatures will be comfortably near the seasonal average, with some areas getting a touch warmer.

Although the temperature is set to rise, the winds, not wanting to be entirely outdone, will stay lively, particularly in the mountains and deserts later Saturday. NWS San Diego highlighted in an X post that while it won't be as blustery as Friday, expect the conditions to be "a bit breezy." A consistent northwest flow will act as a moderator, with gusts between 25-40 MPH making their presence known in some areas.

The forecast discussion explains that the recent trough caused quite a stir and has migrated toward the Four Corners region, leaving us to our devices with "drier conditions with weaker winds this morning." The San Diego area, notorious for its "May Gray" and "June Gloom," will see a receding marine layer over the coming days as high pressure continues to build from Sunday through the middle of the week, encouraging sunnier mornings and daytime temperatures in the pleasant 70s and 80s away from the coast.

Boaters, however, should take heed: A Small Craft Advisory remained in effect through this morning due to strong northwest winds and rough seas, as the National Weather Service reported. Lighter winds and seas are on tap for Sunday through Wednesday. The beaches are also experiencing some upbeat activity, with the National Weather Service stating that there's "elevated surf from a short-period wind swell on exposed west-facing beaches." But just like the winds, the surf and swell "will gradually subside today."

The weather spotters, although Skywarn activation is not requested, are encouraged to report significant conditions, maintaining a communal effort in weather awareness. But for now, as the forecast leading into the week hints at sunny skies and climbing temperatures, it looks like San Diego will be rolling out the welcome mat for summer a little earlier than usual.
