Tragedy struck the streets of San Jose when police were called to conduct a welfare check on North 4th Street and East St John Street late Thursday evening. According to the San Jose Police Department, officers found an adult female with at least one gunshot wound. Despite the immediate commencement of lifesaving measures, the woman was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, marking the city's 12th homicide of the year.

The incident occurred on April 26, around 9:07 PM, San Jose PD disclosed in an official statement. The perpetrator of the crime managed to quickly escape the scene before authorities arrived, leaving officials to try to piece together the circumstances of the crime tirelessly. The police are actively pursuing leads but have yet to apprehend any suspects in connection with the fatal shooting.

Sergeant Jorge Garibay of the San Jose Police Department conveyed in a statement that the department's Homicide Unit has taken up the investigation to uncover the motive behind the shooting. The name of the deceased has not yet been released as the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office is in the process of confirming the victim's identity and notifying her next of kin.

Law enforcement is asking for the public's assistance in bringing the suspect to justice. Detective Sergeant Van Den Broeck and Detective Estantino of the Homicide Unit have been assigned to the case.
