Law Enforcement Warns of Misinformation in Continued Search for Missing "At-Risk" Marin Teen Billionaire HeiressSource: Marin County Sheriff's Office

The Marin County Sheriff's Office continues actively searching for Mint Butterfield, the 16-year-old who was reported missing by their mother, Caterina Fake, a founder of Flickr. According to the Sheriff's Office, Mint has been missing since April 21 after they left their Bolinas home sometime during the night or early morning. They were last seen at approximately 10:00 p.m. by their mother. Mint, who goes by they/them pronouns, is considered a voluntary-missing juvenile but is deemed "At-Risk" due to a reported previous threat of suicide.

Efforts to quickly locate Mint have turned up empty, despite collaborative efforts between Marin County and San Francisco police departments. According to the press release, Marin County Deputies have entered Mint's information into the Missing and Unidentified Persons System (MUPS) and have issued All Points Bulletin flyers with a description and photograph of Mint. It is believed Mint may have tried to make their way to the Tenderloin District of San Francisco, where they share another home with their mother.

Law enforcement is cautioning the public against the spread of misinformation. "Unfortunately, there has been misinformation disseminated through social media and other outlets regarding potential associates or persons who may know of Mint’s whereabouts," the Sheriff's Office stated. Moreover, various incorrect phone numbers have been circulated, offering false leads on how to provide information.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information on Mint Butterfield's whereabouts to directly contact them at (415) 479-2311 or email [email protected]. Officials emphasize the importance of passing along any tips to the Sheriff's Office to appropriately channel resources and efforts in finding Mint. As the search continues, the community has been urged to stay alert and report any potential sightings of the missing 16-year-old to assist in ensuring their safe return.
