The flavors of the Middle East have landed a new home in East County — Shawarma Guys, known for their sought-after food truck cuisine, has opened the doors of their first brick-and-mortar outpost in La Mesa. Fans of their wagyu beef shawarma, a cut above the usual street fare, flocked to 5525 Jackson Drive #B for a taste and to partake in Friday's ribbon-cutting ceremony.

"I'm very excited, it's a big difference from being in the food truck to being in here," Shawarma Guys owner Bryan Zeto expressed his enthusiasm in a statement obtained by FOX 5/KUSI. Besides their signature beef shawarma, this new eatery's extended menu boasts a variety of chicken shawarma, falafel, and, for the plant-based crowd, vegan shawarma. And not to forget, a side of french fries to complete the meal.

Originating from its food truck beginnings in 2018, stationed at South Park's 3012 Grape St., Shawarma Guys has carved a niche in the San Diego culinary scene. Zeto spilled the beans to FOX 5/KUSI about their plans to stick to their roots with a prospective brick-and-mortar location in South Park and add another in Mira Mesa in the upcoming months.

Shawarma, in its essence, is meat such as lamb, chicken, or beef painstakingly cooked on a vertically rotating spit. Shawarma Guys takes it up a notch with their premium Wagyu beef, exquisite for its marbling and melt-in-the-mouth tenderness. "We do chicken shawarma, we do falafel, we have vegan options like a vegan shawarma, we do french fries," Zeto said, according to FOX 5/KUSI. Even a cheesesteak option is on the docket, but only available at the La Mesa spot for now.

Reflecting on the community embrace, Shawarma Guys radiated gratitude via their Instagram account, shawarmaguys, posting, "La Mesa, we are officially open! The warmth and support from the city have truly made us feel like part of the family." They beckoned fans to join them on this savory journey at their newest location.
