An outbreak of overnight violence in the nation's capital has left three people dead and two injured, as the Metropolitan Police Department investigates a series of shootings that rocked Washington D.C. neighborhoods. MPD first responded to a distressing scene on Wednesday night, where a teenage boy was discovered with fatal gunshot wounds at the intersection of Bruce Place and Ainger Place SE, as reported by DC News Now. Despite rapid transport to a local hospital, the boy succumbed to his injuries.

The violence continued into the early hours of Thursday, starting with a triple shooting at 10th St. and Spring Rd. NW at around 12:09 a.m. A woman and a teenage boy were reportedly taken to the hospital in conscious and breathing states, though, a third victim was declared dead at the scene, UpNorthLive documents.

Shortly after, more gunfire was reported at 12:34 a.m., prompting officers to hasten to the 4500 block of Sheriff Rd. NE. There, they found another man suffering from gunshot wounds; his injuries later proved fatal at an area hospital. His identity, along with the identities of the other deceased, has not been immediately made available to the public, according to NBC Washington.

A resident told 7News, "There's a bullet lodged in the driver's side of [my] car," following the grim discovery of the triple shooting's aftermath. He expressed his deep emotional state and relief at not being present during the incident, "I'm just so fortunate, and excuse me I'm so emotional kind of lethargic right now," so I'm just lucky you know that I wasn't here at the scene when this happened." The police have yet to release any information on potential suspects or motives behind the tragic succession of events that unfolded.
