Suspect in Kentucky Shootout, Jessie Ray Curtis, Apprehended in Tennessee After Multi-Day ManhuntSource: Warren County Sheriff’s Office

A fugitive with a bullet wound and a rap sheet was nabbed in Tennessee after a Kentucky shootout turned the quiet roads of Warren County into a chaotic crime scene. Jessie Ray Curtis, a 36-year-old convicted felon, was wanted for a string of crimes, including first-degree burglary and firearm possession by a felon. According to WNKY, Curtis was arrested on Thursday, days after the frenetic gun battle on Ella Way in Bowling Green unraveled on April 22.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office explained that the incident began with a call about an accident on Murphy Road, where a vehicle was reported trying to flee the scene. Following up, another call quickly alerted deputies to a shooting on Ella Way. These incidents were confirmed by authorities to be connected, which culminated in a second exchange of gunfire down Murphy Road as suspects attempted to escape in their vehicles quickly. In a statement obtained by WBKO, witnesses reported several individuals scattering across fields in various directions before law enforcement's arrival.

The tense moments following the shootings led to a band of arrests. Joshua Culbreath, caught after a foot chase, faced charges of firearms by a convicted felon due to outstanding warrants. His apprehension was part of a larger sweep that included finding an abandoned black Enclave hidden inside a barn on Vance Lane. Properties and vehicles tied to the incident were subject to search warrants, leading to another arrest. Jess Fitzgerald, an Ella Way resident, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and trafficking in marijuana, as Fox17 reported.

As the Warren County Sheriff's Office pieced together the chaotic puzzle, the manhunt for Curtis came to a close across state lines. Jessie Curtis, marked by multiple tattoos, including on his face, was arrested in Tennessee and will now have to face the legal music for his alleged participation in the shootout and the warrants hanging over his head for previous felonies.
