As Texas braces for severe thunderstorms, Governor Greg Abbott has put the State on high alert, mobilizing a range of emergency response resources to deal with threats ranging from large hail to flash flooding. The state's preparations ramp up following forecasts of possible tornadoes tearing across regions already reeling from more than 80 twisters in recent days.

Gov. Abbott has reached out to the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), urging them to prepare for the incoming storm system that could continue to unleash its fury through the weekend. According to FOX San Antonio, Abbott's action follows the touchdown of destructive tornadoes across north Texas with high winds in their wake. "Large areas of the state will face strong to severe thunderstorms, including risks of hail and damaging winds," Abbott was quoted in the statement Thursday.

The governor did not stop at issuing warnings. According to a release on the governor's official website, he directed the deployment of additional state emergency response resources such as urban search & rescue teams, saw crews, swiftwater rescue boat squads, and helicopters with hoist capabilities ahead of the severe weather pattern expected to persist. Texans have been urged to remain vigilant, heed the advice of officials, and "Turn Around, Don’t Drown," when faced with flooded roadways.

On top of ushering urban and swiftwater rescue teams into action, Abbott's proactive measures have also seen the Texas National Guard provide transportation platoons and UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, expanding the emergency response. With heavy rains, severe thunderstorms, and potential river floods looming, state officials have been positioned to monitor conditions and respond rapidly, further supported by specialists readied to manage any adverse environmental impacts.
