University of Minnesota's math whiz, Professor Vladimir Sverak, has earned a spot in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, joining the ranks of the nation's intellectual elite. Sverak, a heavyweight in the world of partial differential equations, has been recognized for his contributions that cross the boundaries from purely theoretical explorations to critical real-world applications.

Sverak earned this spot after decades of delving into the complexities of mathematical equations that explain everything from the chaos of fluid flows to the precision of material stress computations. Since coming aboard the U of M faculty back in 1994, Sverak has not only shaped minds but also garnered accolades like the 2017 Prize for Mathematics from the Neuron Foundation in Prague, the University of Minnesota reported.
