Arlington's Fairfield East Neighborhood Shines After 3.55-Ton Cleanup Effort by VolunteersSource: City of Arlington, Texas

Clean streets and grateful hearts abound in the Fairfield East neighborhood following a considerable cleanup drive by the Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) volunteers and staff. Last Saturday's effort resulted in a whopping 3.55 tons of waste and debris removal, contributing to an impressive total of 153.4 tons hauled off from Arlington properties via NET events, according to the City of Arlington, Texas.

Among the residents thrilled with the support was Jorge Solis, who could not manage the load due to medical complications. "I have had a lot of medical issues so I couldn’t clean this up," Solis stated, per the City of Arlington, Texas. "What a blessing."

The cleanup initiative, which tackled five properties this time around, has helped close to 100 residential properties since its inception. NET's work not only assists in beautifying the community but also plays a pivotal role in reducing code violations. Bernice Engel, a resident of Irving who volunteered for the first time, was impressed with the efforts. "I actually live in Irving and wish they had something like this," Engel remarked, per the City of Arlington, Texas. "This is awesome."

The Arlington Hispanic Citizen Police Academy volunteers stood out for their commendable dedication, working in conjunction with NET to ensure the neighborhood’s upkeep. As the event wrapped up, a block party featuring food and refreshments was hosted. Community Advocating for Prosperity and Opportunity (CAPO)'s David Jackson gave away 88 free books, and environmental education was not left aside, with Melissa Walker distributing stormwater bags and protective gloves to participants.

Tools were also abundantly available, thanks to the City's sharing trailer which outfitted volunteers with all necessary equipment for tree trimming, mowing, and minor repairs. A note of thanks was given to all the volunteers, residents, and staff who contributed to the day's success.
