Boston Police Arrest Dorchester Man, Seize Firearm with Defaced Serial Number After Gunshots DetectedSource: Boston Police Department Website

During a late-night patrol following gunshots in Dorchester, Boston police nabbed a suspect and confiscated a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Angelo DeJesus, 35, of Dorchester, is now facing multiple charges after the incident, which occurred early Sunday morning.

Police, who were responding to a shot spotter activation indicating two rounds fired at around 12:34 AM, initially found themselves on Morton Street before discovering a single spent shell casing on Woodbole Avenue. DeJesus, after a thorough search by officers, was spotted by officers walking toward the area of 29 Woodbole Avenue where the casing was found, slipping out of sight momentarily before reappearing from the yard of 140 Standard Street.

According to Boston Police Department's official release, DeJesus was seen idling in a vehicle, then knocking on a door, and finally lurking around the back of the residence. Officers approached DeJesus, who appeared intoxicated, and then investigated his vehicle where they observed more evidence in plain view, including a spent shell casing and several small alcohol bottles.

Boston Police K9s, involved in the search, led officers right to the hidden firearm. K9 Logan, responding to the suspect's exit path, alerted officers to a Polymer 80 handgun hidden inside a barbecue grill, which was later confirmed to contain an empty magazine and its serial number destroyed.

DeJesus is currently charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, defacement of a firearm serial number, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and disturbing the peace. His arraignment is scheduled at the Dorchester District Court. The swift action of the Boston police has removed yet another illegal firearm from the streets.
