Bystanders Subdue Suspected DUI Driver After Crash Causes Power Outage in Twentynine PalmsSource: Google Street View

Chaos erupted at a Twentynine Palms intersection last night when a suspected drunk driver slammed into another vehicle, triggering a series of events that led to quick-thinking bystanders taking justice into their own hands. The collision, which occurred at the junction of Adobe Road and Didsbury Road, left one vehicle demolished and an electrical pole sheared at its base, leading to an area-wide power outage. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Blake Derrick Barton, was detained by onlookers after attempting to flee the scene, according to the SBSD - Morongo Basin Sheriff's Department.

The incident unfolded on Wednesday at approximately 8:01 p.m., as Barton's high-speed Mercedes collided into the rear of a Toyota Rav4 driven by Roselyn Beatris Lemus, a 20-year-old from Bridgeport, CT. The impact forced the Rav4 off the road, while Barton's car took out an Edison pole before coming to a halt in a desert field. The collision not only disrupted power but also severed a Spectrum cable line, cutting off internet access to customers.

Witnesses to the crash acted swiftly, preventing Barton from escaping until law enforcement arrived. Both Barton and Lemus sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to different medical facilities for treatment. Barton was later found to be under the influence at the time of incident, as per the SBSD - Morongo Basin Sheriff's Department.

Morongo Basin authorities temporarily closed all lanes of Adobe Road while city Public Works and utility crews cleared the wreckage and restored services. The sheriff's office has called for anyone with further information on the collision, urging them to contact Deputy Montes De Oca at (760) 366-4175 or report anonymously through the We-Tip Hotline.
