A peaceful East Boston neighborhood was shaken Friday afternoon when a woman was violently stabbed at the Brandywyne Village apartment complex. Authorities arrived at the scene around 3 p.m. in response to the assault, as reported by CBS Boston.

The victim, described by locals as a "sweetheart," was rushed to the hospital with multiple stab wounds. Fortunately, her injuries are not life-threatening. A man has been detained by police, suspected to be connected to the stabbing. The attack has left residents, who are familiar with the victim's kindness and her condition as someone who is deaf, searching for answers, "She's just a sweetheart," neighbor Patty Granara lamented to CBS Boston, "I can't see anybody bothering her."

As police secured the crime scene, the usual neighborhood tranquility gave way to a flurry of blue lights and emergency responders. Kristen Goodwin, a neighbor, shared her disbelief with CBS Boston: "My kids are out here running around playing with all the neighborhood kids, and we've never really had a problem here," she said.

Several neighbors echoed the sentiment that crime, especially of this violent nature, is rare in this family-centric area, "This should not have happened to her. A girl who doesn’t even speak, and she signs. But whenever she sees me, she runs and gives me a big hug," Elizabeth Clay recounted to 7NEWS. The incident, still under active investigation, has resulted in few details being disclosed about the suspect, despite the arrest made by Boston Police.

With the investigation ongoing, local and area hospitals are providing care for the victim as the community reels from the unexpected violence.
