Eden Prairie Honors Seniors in May with Games, Shredding Service, and 'Chat with the Chiefs'Source: City of Eden Prairie

Eden Prairie is stepping up to celebrate its elder community with a packed schedule for Senior Awareness Month, marking the event since 1993. This May, the city has laid out a series of events aimed at engaging and supporting seniors while bolstering intergenerational relations, as per a bulletin published by the city.

Card game aficionados can look forward to sharpening their skills at Pinochle every Monday, from 12:30 noon to 3:30 P.M. at the Senior Center, with free entry. The game involves trick-taking and meld formations, promising to score some points and social interactions.

An essential service for preventing identity theft is also on the agenda with the availability of a Shred Truck where seniors can safely destroy confidential paperwork. The event, open to all with no registration needed, is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, from 10 a.m. to noon, also free of charge. A limit of two paper bags per person applies, excluding three-ring binders and plastic bags, as stated in the guidelines provided by the Senior Center News–Spring 2024 publication.

Residents will have the chance to directly engage with local law enforcement leaders at the "Chat with the Chiefs" event. Eden Prairie Police Chief Matt Sackett and Fire Chief Scott Gerber are set to provide overviews of their departments on Tuesday, May 14, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. Registration is required by May 13 to secure a spot to converse over coffee with the chiefs, according to the city's Senior Center News.

The Eden Prairie Police and Fire Departments are hosting a Senior Awareness Dinner, serving ribs and chicken to community seniors, set for Wednesday, May 15, from 4:30-6:00 P.M. While there is a $12 charge, it's an opportunity for attendees to learn how these departments cater to the elderly community. Interested parties should register by May 8 to join the dinner.
