After a two-month hiatus due to a devastating storm in March, the iconic Mary Mac’s Tea Room has announced, it will swing open its doors to the public once again. Known for its authentic Southern cuisine and rich history, the establishment is set to welcome back patrons starting this Wednesday. The announcement came via a statement on the restaurant’s Facebook page, as well as through local media.

According to FOX5 Atlanta, the Midtown Atlanta eatery suffered a collapsed roof under the weight of heavy rain, prompting extensive repairs. The beloved restaurant, which has been serving Atlantans since 1945, expressed their excitement about reopening in a Facebook post, saying, "We’re so excited to see all our loyal customers soon! It’s taken two long months and lots of hard work and dedication from our team, the city of Atlanta, and all of our partners to get here."

Heralded as the last of its kind, Mary Mac's Tea Room has stood the test of time, expanding from its original setting to now encompass more than 13,000 square feet and six dining rooms. Over the decades, the dining spot has played host to esteemed figures such as the Dalai Lama and President Jimmy Carter, earning itself the moniker of "Atlanta’s Dining Room." Representatives of the historic locale shared with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that alongside the repairs, the establishment has also made "some much-needed updates to the restaurant."

The reopening means those in Atlanta can once again enjoy traditional dishes that have defined Mary Mac's, such as fried chicken and Brunswick stew. In their statement, the restaurant added, "We can’t wait to welcome you back for a taste of your favorite dishes," as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. They further extended gratitude to the engineers, contractors, as well as the City of Atlanta, for ensuring a safe return and expressed thanks for the support and kindness from the community during the restoration period. Patrons and newcomers alike are encouraged to visit the restaurant from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. to partake in their celebrated Southern hospitality and food.
