A 32-year-old Libertyville man is facing a slew of felony charges, including attempted first-degree murder, in connection with a brutal bus stabbing that left a 69-year-old man seriously wounded. According to a Chicago Police Department report, Stanislav Zhuravel, who hails from the 200 block of W. Peterson, was apprehended following the violent January incident.

On the heels of an intensive manhunt, Zhuravel was snagged on April 30 by the Chicago Police and the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. Arrested at his home address, he was pegged as the knife-wielding assailant responsible for the attack on the elderly male victim while aboard a city bus traveling the 1700 block of S. State.

The heinous assault, which happened in broad daylight on January 15, triggered a flurry of charges; Zhuravel is slated to answer for attempted murder, aggravated battery against a senior citizen, and additional battery offenses involving deadly weapons and disrupting public transit services. Officials have remained tight-lipped, offering no further details beyond the initial press release. As the case emerges from the shadows of city violence, a detention hearing has been scheduled for May 2 at the courthouse located at 2600 S. California.

The victim, whose identity has yet to be released, underwent multiple stabbings at the hands of his accused attacker. No information about his current condition has been made available since the incident, clouding the aftermath of the assault in mystery.
