Long Beach Man Bryan Lopez Arrested and Charged in Connection with Fatal December ShootingSource: Google Street View

Long Beach detectives have put cuffs on a man linked to a fatal shooting from last year. In a crackdown that left no stone unturned, authorities nabbed Bryan Lopez, 42, for the murder of Ismael Cuevas, which took place on December 21, 2023, on Eagle Street. Special Investigations Division Detectives got their man near the 2800 block of Pacific Avenue on May 2nd, at around 7:50 a.m.

After the arrest, detectives executed search warrants at Lopez's Long Beach home, and another warrant for a residence linked to him in Los Angeles. Lopez faces a laundry list of charges including one count of murder, one count of attempted murder, and a violation of his probation. The accused, who apparently could not steer clear of trouble, is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is caged on a steep $3,000,000 bail.

The case has since been returned to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for review and potential prosecution. Long Beach Police Department is still on the lookout for more information and is urging anyone with details to step forward. Tips can be passed along to Homicide Detectives Ethan Shear or Chasen Contreras, by calling (562) 570-7244 or anonymously through "LA Crime Stoppers."

The shooting, which took place shortly after 10 p.m. on a chilly December night, also left another victim wounded; thankfully, he's been in stable condition since. At the time of the crime, Detectives Shear and Contreras rolled up their sleeves, hitting the scene to piece together what unfolded in those grim moments on Eagle Street. While many questions remain, what's clear is that Bryan Lopez, if found guilty, could be facing a long stretch behind bars for the crimes laid at his feet.
