A fatal shooting in Blount County has prompted an investigation by local authorities after a man was found dead from a gunshot Friday night, according to the Blount County Sheriff's Office. Deputies who arrived on the scene at Pryor Road near Nails Creek Road discovered the body of 54-year-old Corey Bearns, reports WVLT.

The sheriff’s office has since taken into custody 31-year-old Jeffrey Dain Rimback of Rockford, who was found in proximity to the crime scene shortly after the deputies arrived. Rimback, now charged with filing false reports, is being detained at the Blount County Correctional Facility on a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled for a court hearing on April 29 at 1:30 p.m., according to WBIR.

Emergency responders had attempted life-saving measures on Bearns at the scene before transporting him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The incident took place in a rural community situated between Wildwood and Seymour.
