Tragedy struck early Thursday morning when a man was fatally shot multiple times near a bustling Midtown Miami mall, police said. According to a statement obtained by the Miami Herald, the victim was discovered in the mall's rear parking lot, situated between Northwest 35th Street and 34th Terrace, following alerts from the city's ShotSpotter system at around 4:08 a.m.

The unidentified man, riddled with bullets, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where, he died an hour later. As of early Thursday morning, the assailant responsible for the shooting had not been captured, Officer Mike Vega confirmed with the Herald. Police canvassed the area near The Shops at Midtown Miami, located at 3401 N. Miami Ave., in search of evidence and possible leads.

In a coinciding report provided by NBC Miami, officials were called to the scene after two ShotSpotter notifications indicated that shots had been fired at 3500 North Miami Avenue. Upon arrival, authorities found the man suffering from gunshot wounds, which eventually led to his death at the hospital.
