Memphis Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder Following Fatal Shooting on Hardin AvenueSource: Shelby County Sheriff's Office

A Memphis man is in custody following a fatal altercation that left his roommate dead on Hardin Avenue, officials said. Jaquavion Walker, 19, has been charged with second-degree murder for the shooting on Tuesday night that resulted in the death of Martavion Carmichael. The incident reportedly began as an argument that escalated outside of a residence in The Heights neighborhood.

Around 7:44 p.m., Memphis Police were called to the 3200 block of Hardin Avenue where Carmichael was found dead, according to Action News 5. A medical examiner confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot. Witnesses at the scene identified Walker as the shooter, following an argument overheard by those nearby.

In a statement obtained by FOX13 Memphis, court records allege that the dispute was over Carmichael being asked to leave the residence. Walker told investigators that he shot Carmichael because he refused to exit the home.

Further details from a WREG report indicated that Carmichael was unarmed at the time of the shooting. Following his arrest, Walker admitted to the shooting, which took place after a heated altercation with the victim. Walker is due in court on Thursday, May 2, and a bond recommendation of $1 million has been submitted for his release.
