Law enforcement officials from the Metropolitan Police Department have taken 34-year-old Emmanuel Lewis into custody, connecting him to the grisly murder of a man found dead in Southeast D.C., sources say.

Lewis was nabbed on Tuesday after a warrant was issued by the D.C. Superior Court, the Metropolital Police Department stated. He is now staring down Second Degree Murder while Armed charges for allegedly gunning down 25-year-old Kwame Keith, whose body was discovered stuffed in a garbage can last year, in a crime that shook the community to its core.

The macabre find was made on October 30, 2023, around 7:37 p.m., after Sixth District officers were summoned to the 1800 block of Fairlawn Avenue, Southeast. Keith, who reportedly had no fixed address was found by officers, bringing to an end his transient journey through life in the most violent way.

Following an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner; it was revealed that Keith had been riddled with bullets. And, as expected, the case was declared a homicide. In a city weary of violence, the news of Keith's demise emerged as another grim testament to the cost of street warfare, and the ease with which life can be discarded.

The suspect, Lewis, a resident of Southeast, D.C., now faces the legal reckoning for Keith's death. After being apprehended by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, he was transported to the Homicide Branch where he will have to answer for the charges laid against him.
