According to a Facebook post by Constable Mark Herman's Office, the vehicle owner was fired upon after confronting the suspect on May 7.

The suspect, later identified as John Terriquez, and an accomplice, Wortham Smith, quickly fled the scene, sparking a pursuit by Constable Deputies. The chase was brief but intense, with Terriquez recklessly attempting to evade the law until he crashed into another car. Both he and Smith then tried to quickly flee on foot but were captured by the authorities shortly thereafter.

Investigating officers learned that the vehicle Terriquez and Smith were in had been reported stolen, adding to the list of offenses. In the incident's aftermath, the Constable's Office disclosed, "They were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail. John Terriquez was charged with Aggravated Assault, Felony Evading, and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Wortham Smith was charged with Burglary of a Motor Vehicle for partaking in attempting to steal the vehicle. Their bond and court information have not been set at this time. " 

Prior to this incident, Terriquez had been out on bond for multiple charges, including Evading, Aggravated Robbery with a Deadly Weapon, and Unauthorized Absence From Community Corrections Facility, among others.
